Solidarity with the Ukraine LGBT+ Community

As the situation continues to unfold in Ukraine, people around the world are finding ways to stand in solidarity and support the Ukraine people. Here we have compiled some information about groups, organisations and campaigns which are standing in solidarity with, and providing support directly to the Ukraine LGBT+ community.


Consortium

Consortium – for stronger LGBT+ communities in the UK.

We spoke to Paul Roberts, CEO of Consortium – who is having conversations with organisations including Rainbow Migration and Stonewall. A couple of things are in development and he will share as soon as he has more information.

Rainbow Migration – supports lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer and intersex (LGBTQI+) people through the asylum and immigration system.

Stonewall UK – Have added an information page to their website.

Entering ‘Ukraine’ into the website search function brings up five articles; the ‘How you can support LGBTW+ Ukrainians’ webpage linked above, International Campaigners Toolkit (English), International Campaigners Tootkit (Russian), Stonewall announces Top Global Employers and International Resources.


ILGA EUROPE

ILGA Europe Support for LGBTI People in Ukraine

Currently eight organisations (07/03/2022) are listed providing support to LGBT+ people in Ukraine. There are also details for organisations in neighbouring countries including Poland and Germany.

Kyiv Pride – Providing humanitarian support to LGBTI people in Kyiv, donate here.

Sphere Women’s Association – Women’s group working on humanitarian aid. Bank details are on the Support for LGBTI People in Ukraine page (here).

LGBTI Human Rights Nash Mir Centre – The Centre urgently needs funds to continue working with LGBTI people who cannot leave Kyiv, you can donate here

Insight LGBTQ – Helping with temporary housing, relocation to safer areas, food, medicine and first-needed supplies, donate at this link.

NGO Fulcrum – Supporting relocation, shelter, emergency aid to LGBTI persons, donate at this link.

Gender Z – Based in Zaporizhzhia, Gender Z are inviting donations to help them support community members who have not left and need emergency assistance, such as shelter, basic needs support etc. Donate at this link.

Alliance Global – Funding a shelter in Kyiv for MSM and trans* people who are unable to leave the city and are in difficulty. Have almost run out of funds. Bank details are on the Support for LGBTI People in Ukraine page (here).

ZBOKU – Based in Kyiv, ZBOKU is an art initiative that is creating sexual and gender dissent art in Ukraine and needs funds to continue paying for their space that became a bomb shelter and continue their work on making and protecting art. Donate at this link.

Currently lists seven Ukrainian trans and LGBTIQ NGOs (07/03/2022). Five other key Ukrainian organisations are listed providing support to children and elderly people, Disabled people, Roma communities, African students and Sex Workers.

KyivPride: Created a group chat in Russian for LGBTI+ people who want to ask or offer help, post opportunities about settlement and transportation, and support each other. Donate. If you seek help and want to access the chat, register here.

Teenergizer: Peer support spaces and services for young people living with HIV in Ukraine. Donate.

Sphere: Based in Kharkiv, Sphere works closely with the queer community and young people and is actively engaged in queer organising in the region and across Ukraine. Donate.

Egalite Intersex Ukraine: Raises awareness and visibility of Intersex people in Ukraine. Donate.

Support other key Ukrainian organisations

Korporaciya montsrov odessa: Provides medical, social and humanitarian help for children and elderly people in Odessa.

Fight For Right: Support for Ukrainians with disabilities in emergency.

Roma Women Fund Chirikli: Raises awareness and advocates for Roma women’s rights in Ukraine. They collaborate with Roma communities on a regional level.

Support African students leaving UkraineDonate.

Legalife-Ukraine: A member organisation of the Sex Workers’ Rights Advocacy Network (SWAN) is in need of support.

Support the needs for accessing trans-specific healthcare: we are at the moment clarifying how to send hormones to overcome shortages in hormone-replacement therapy.

Mayor of London | London Assembly

The Mayor of London | London Assembly have added a page “How You Can Help Ukraine” to their website.

Choose Love is highlighted as supporting the LGBTQIA+ Community and Mental Health Support. No other references.


London Plus

London Plus (Greater London Volunteering) has created a list of organisations to signpost support for those affected by the crisis in the Ukraine.

This includes charities and communities groups, with a particular focus on London-based organisations.

It includes ways you can support those in Ukraine via emergency appeals for donations and funding.

Currently (12/03/2022) four organisations referenced supporting the LGBT+ Community.

Choose Love are appealing for donations for supporting projects providing vital aid and services to those still in and fleeing the country, including: emergency medical care, food, shelter, clothes, legal support, support for the LGBTQIA+ community and mental health support.

Rainbow Across Borders are a voluntary self-help group for lesbian, gay, bisexual & transgender (LGBT) asylum seekers who are fleeing the persecution of oppressive homophobic/transphobic regimes, choir. Email: info@rainbowsacrossborder.org.uk.

Lambeth Links are the central forum in Lambeth for the LGBTQ+ community of the borough, the largest in the UK.

Kyiv Pride

Kyiv Pride Ukrainian Non-Governmental organisation of Gays, Lesbians, Bisexuals, Transgender, Queer and Intersex people.

We are helping LGBTQI people directly with means for food and relocation. KyivPride’s platform for help and support now unites over 150 people. We’ve created the database of the organizations and individuals who are offering shelter and transportation in Europe and it’s growing every day. Every day we run a psychological support group for LGBTQI. Our team is working hard with the media to present the truth of what is the situation for LGBTQI people in the country right now.

Insight LGBTQ NGO

Insight LGBTQ NGO – are collecting information from all regions about the needs of LGBTQI people, connecting those who can help with people in need, and preparing for conflict escalation. They have launched a psychological support chat.

Now we are collecting donations to provide support for LGBTQI people in Ukraine by covering basic needs in protection, safety, and health.
